
The geomagnetic field was at active to extremely severe storm levels on November 12 due to CME effects. Solar wind speed at SOHO ranged between 533 and 957 km/sec, averaging 728 km/sec (+248 km/sec compared to the previous day). The November 11 CME was observed reaching SOHO at 18:55 UT. The high latitude magnetometer at Andenes was at active to extremely severe storm levels. The above 10 MeV proton flux peaked at 02:15 UT at 1460 pfu and decreased to 104 pfu at the end of the UT day.
Solar flux density measured at 20h UT on 2.8 GHz was 163.3 - increasing 2.7 over the previous solar rotation.
The 365 day average solar flux at 1 AU was 159.54 (183 days ago). The 81 day average solar flux at 1 AU was 154.0 (41 days ago, this is 53.8% of the total SC25 solar flux range from the max 81 day average peak on September 4, 2024 at 227.3 and an average 81 day flux of 69 at solar minimum). SC25 365d peak: 195.9 on October 13, 2024.
The Potsdam WDC planetary A index was 133 (STAR Ap - based on the average of three hour interval ap indices: 133.4). Three hour interval K indices: 98786464 (planetary), 76575554 (Boulder), 96765564 (Andenes).
The background x-ray flux is at the class C1 level (GOES 19).
At the time of counting spots (see image time), spots were observed in 15 active regions using 2K resolution (SN: 326) and in 10 active regions using 1K resolution (SN: 172) SDO/HMI images.
AR 14272 [N22W66] decayed slowly and quietly.
AR 14274 [N24W49] decayed losing spots and
area. The region is still compact and complex with multiple magnetic delta
configurations. The magnetic delta are, however. much less extensive
compared to some days ago. There is still a chance of another X flare. C1

AR 14276 [S16W18] decayed slowly. There is some polarity intermixing
ahead of the main penumbra. C1 flares: C1.4 @ 04:53, C1.9 @ 05:07 UT
AR 14277 [S06W17] decayed slowly and was mostly quiet.
AR 14278 [N11W20] developed slightly and was quiet.
AR 14279 [S13E18] decayed slowly and was mostly quiet. C1 flares:

November 10: A full halo CME was observed after the X1.2 proton event
in AR 14274. The CME reached Earth just after midnight on November 12.
November 11: A full halo CME was observed after the X5.1 proton event
in AR 14274 peaking at 10:04 UT. The CME reached SOHO at 18:55 UT on November 12.
November 12: No obviously Earth directed CMEs were observed in
available coronagraph imagery.

A northern hemisphere negative polarity coronal hole (CH1330) will be Earth facing on November 13-14.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be at unsettled to severe storm levels on November 13 due to CME effects. Quiet to active levels are likely on November 14-15. Effects from CH1330 could cause quiet to minor storm levels on November 16-17.

When available the active region map has a coronal hole polarity overlay where red (pink) is negative and blue is positive.

Sunspot activity was on a decreasing trend from September
2024 until mid August 2025 (using the average solar flux over 3 solar rotations as a proxy).
Then a strong surge in activity saw solar flux peak in late August 2025 just
below the largest peaks seen in 2024. A slow decrease in activity from the
August level has been observed in September and October 2025.
All 365 day smoothed sunspot numbers reached a maximum on October 11-12, 2024.
This became the peak of SC25 (365 day smoothed peaks: STAR 1K: 236.1, STAR 2K: 364.3, NOAA SN: 156.0, ISN: 163.9),
while the 365d
smoothed solar flux peaked on October 13, 2024, just 1.7% below the SC23
peak, and 62.6% above the SC24 peak.
