
The geomagnetic field was at unsettled to major storm levels on November 7, mainly under the influence of CME effects as the November 5 CME arrived before 05h UT at ACE. Solar wind speed at SOHO ranged between 617 and 941 km/sec, averaging 769 km/sec (+217 km/sec compared to the previous day). The high latitude magnetometer at Andenes recorded unsettled to major storm levels. The above 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels all day.
Solar flux density measured at 20h UT on 2.8 GHz was 165.8 - increasing 34.6 over the previous solar rotation.
The 365 day average solar flux at 1 AU was 159.9 (183 days ago). The 81 day average solar flux at 1 AU was 151.6 (41 days ago, this is 52.2% of the total SC25 solar flux range from the max 81 day average peak on September 4, 2024 at 227.3 and an average 81 day flux of 69 at solar minimum). SC25 365d peak: 195.9 on October 13, 2024.
The Potsdam WDC planetary A index was 33 (STAR Ap - based on the average of three hour interval ap indices: 33.0). Three hour interval K indices: 56543333 (planetary), 65443233 (Boulder), 66544453 (Andenes).
The background x-ray flux is at the class C1 level (GOES 19).
At the time of counting spots (see image time), spots were observed in 9 active regions using 2K resolution (SN: 269) and in 8 active regions using 1K resolution (SN: 156) SDO/HMI images.
AR 14272 [N21W02] was mostly quiet and stable.
AR 14273 [S13W23] decayed slowly and quietly.
AR 14274 [N24E15] still has large magnetic delta configurations and
could produce an X class flare. Not surprisingly the region was the most
active flare produces on the visible disk. C1 flares: C1.7 @ 00:31, C1.5 @
01:28, C1.9 @ 10:20, C1.9 @ 11:19, C1.8 @ 11:41, C1.9 @ 14:30, C1.9 @ 14:41,

AR 14275 [N07E18] was mostly quiet and stable.
AR 14276 [S17E52] was less active than during the previous day,
probably due to better separation between opposite polarity spots in the
leading spot section.
New AR 14277 [S07E51] rotated into view on November 5 and was
numbered 2 days later by SWPC as the region developed further. C class
flaring is likely. C1 flares: C1.8 @ 16:36, C1.2 @ 20:18 UT
New AR 14278 [N11E47] rotated into view on November 5 and received
its NOAA number 2 days later. The region was mostly unchanged over the last
day. C1 flares: C1.8 @ 11:58 UT
Spotted regions not observed (or interpreted
differently) by SWPC/USAF:
New AR S11587 [S12E83] rotated into view with
small spots.
New AR S11588 [S12E21] was observed with tiny spots in an old
plage area.

November 5: Full halo CMEs were observed after both the M7 (11:19 UT)
and M8 (22:07 UT) major flares in AR 14274. The first of those CMEs reached
Earth on November 7.
November 6: No obvious CMEs were observed in available coronograph
imagery.
November 7: A faint asymmetric full halo CME was observed after a
long duration M1 event in AR 14274. This CME could reach Earth on November
10.

A recurrent negative polarity trans equatorial coronal hole (CH1328) rotated across the central meridian on November 3-6.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be at unsettled to minor storm levels on November 8-10 due to effects from CH1328 and multiple CMEs.

When available the active region map has a coronal hole polarity overlay where red (pink) is negative and blue is positive.

Sunspot activity was on a decreasing trend from September
2024 until mid August 2025 (using the average solar flux over 3 solar rotations as a proxy).
Then a strong surge in activity saw solar flux peak in late August 2025 just
below the largest peaks seen in 2024. A slow decrease in activity from the
August level has been observed in September and October 2025.
All 365 day smoothed sunspot numbers reached a maximum on October 11-12, 2024.
This became the peak of SC25 (365 day smoothed peaks: STAR 1K: 236.1, STAR 2K: 364.3, NOAA SN: 156.0, ISN: 163.9),
while the 365d
smoothed solar flux peaked on October 13, 2024, just 1.7% below the SC23
peak, and 62.6% above the SC24 peak.
