
The geomagnetic field was at quiet to unsettled levels on November 11 under the influence of coronal hole stream. Solar wind speed at SOHO ranged between 401 and 460 km/sec, averaging 421 km/sec (-1 compared to the previous day). The high latitude magnetometer at Andenes recorded quiet to active levels. The above 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels at the end of the day.
Solar flux density measured at 20h UT on 2.8 GHz was 182.2 - increasing 10.2 over the previous solar rotation. (Centered 1 year average SF at 1 AU - 183 days ago: 185.68. In comparison SC24 peaked on June 28, 2014 at 145.50 while SC23 peaked on February 23, 2002 at 198.15. Current SC25 peak: 185.68 on May 13, 2024). The Potsdam WDC planetary A index was 9 (STAR Ap - based on the mean of three hour interval ap indices: 8.8). Three hour interval K indices: 22322311 (planetary), ******** (Boulder), 43223333 (Andenes).
The background x-ray flux is at the class C1 level (GOES 16).
At the time of counting spots (see image time), spots were observed in 10 active regions using 2K resolution (SN: 258) and in 9 active regions using 1K resolution (SN: 177) SDO/HMI images.
AR 13883 [S06W66] decayed further and was
mostly quiet.
AR 13884 [S07W41] was quiet and stable.
AR 13886 [S06W33] decayed slowly losing spots and area. C1 flares:
C1.8 @ 19:03, C1.8 @ 20:42 UT
AR 13889 [S09E12] decayed and lost the magnetic delta configuration
in the trailing spot section. The deltas within the leading penumbrae
decreased in area. M flares are still possible. C1 flares: C1.8 @ 13:21,
C1.8 @ 16:01, C1.8 @ 20:11, C1.9 @ 21:56, C1.8 @ 23:05 UT
AR 13890 [S13W26] decayed slowly and was mostly quiet. C1 flares:
C1.8 @ 20:23 UT
New AR 13891 [S15E01] rotated into view on November 5 and was
numbered by SWPC 6 days later as the region began to decay.
New AR 13892 [S11E26] emerged on November 8 and received its NOAA
number 3 days later.
Spotted regions not observed (or interpreted
differently) by SWPC/USAF:
S10314 [S13W40] decayed slowly and quietly.
S10340 [S09E04] was quiet and lost some trailing spots to AR 13889.
New region S10347 [S11E33] was observed with tiny spots in an old
plage area.

November 9, 11: No obviously Earth directed CMEs were observed.
November 10: A slow moving CME was observed after the M9 flare in AR
13889, mostly off the southern limbs. This CME could be absorbed by the
solar wind, however, there is a chance of weak effects reaching Earth on
November 13-14.

A recurrent northern hemisphere positive polarity coronal hole (CH1254) will be Earth facing on November 8-14. CH1254 has expanded a lot since the previous rotation and become a large coronal hole. Another recurrent positive polarity northern hemisphere coronal hole (CH1255) will be Earth facing on November 14.
Long distance low and medium frequency (below 2 MHz) propagation along paths north of due west over upper middle and high latitudes is poor. Propagation on long distance northeast-southwest paths is poor.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to active levels on November 12-17 due to a coronal high speed stream associated with CH1254 and on Nov. 17 due to effects from CH1255. Weak effects from the November 10 CME are possible on November 13-14.

1) Effects from a coronal hole could
reach Earth within the next 5 days. When the high speed stream has arrived
the color changes to green.

When available the active region map has a coronal hole polarity overlay where red (pink) is negative and blue is positive.
Data for all officially numbered solar regions according to the Solar Region Summary provided by NOAA/SWPC, all other regions are numbered sequentially as they emerge using the STAR spot number. Comments are my own, as is the STAR spot count (spots observed at or inside a few hours before midnight) and data for regions not numbered by SWPC or where SWPC has observed no spots. SWPC active region numbers in the table below and in the active region map above are the historic SWPC/USAF numbers. SWPC data considered to be not sufficiently precise (location, area, classification) are colored red.

Sunspot activity in October 2024 increased over September and looks to be headed for an SSN near 160. The average solar flux for October will become the second highest for a month during SC25. The above plot now displays the peak in 365d smoothed sunspot numbers in mid October. ISN has a peak on October 15, NOAA SN on October 14 while both the 1K and 2K SDO SN peaked on October 16. Assuming that the average sunspot number from October 2024 until April 14, 2025 becomes 150, we would be looking at a 365 days smoothed sunspot maximum of 164.5 centered on October 15. Should the average sunspot number for that period become 160 we would get a peak near 169.7.
