
The geomagnetic field was quiet to active on September 14. Solar wind speed at SOHO ranged between 381 and 503 km/sec and increased steadily between 07 and 14h UT as a high speed stream, likely from CH1172, reached Earth. The high latitude magnetometer at Andenes recorded quiet to major storm levels.
Solar flux density measured at 20h UT on 2.8 GHz was 145.2 - decreasing 5.4 over the previous solar rotation. (Centered 1 year average SF at 1 AU - 183 days ago: 154.03. In comparison SC24 peaked on June 28, 2014 at 145.50). The Potsdam WDC planetary A index was 17 (STAR Ap - based on the mean of three hour interval ap indices: 16.8). Three hour interval K indices: 43311244 (planetary), 42322244 (Boulder), 63211356 (Andenes).
The background x-ray flux is at the class C1 level (GOES 16).
At the time of counting spots (see image time), spots were observed in 11 active regions using 2K resolution (SN: 246) and in 11 active regions using 1K resolution (SN: 181) SDO/HMI images.
Region 13423 [N15W66] decayed further with the
large trailing penumbra splitting into smaller penumbrae. A long duration
M1.2 (estimated) event occurred just to the north of the region and peaked
near 07:45 UT. The exact time of the peak is unknown as an impulsive M1.4
flare from AR 13429 peaked at that time. C1 flares: C1.1 @ 03:49 UT
Region 13425 [N23W37] decayed further and was mostly quiet.
Region 13429 [N10E06] developed further gaining spots and area. The
region has a relatively complex magnetic layout. Further M class flares are
possible. C1 flares: C1.2 @ 01:24, C1.1 @ 03:10, C1.5 @ 06:00 UT
Region 13430 [S17W47] decayed slowly and quietly.
Region 13431 [S08E06] was quiet and stable.
Region 13433 [N28E38] was quiet and stable.
Spotted regions not observed (or interpreted
differently) by SWPC/USAF:
S8942 [N08E13] was quiet and stable.
S8954 [N16E27] reemerged with tiny spots.
S8955 [N23W15] reemerged with tiny spots.
S8960 [S13E01] was quiet and stable.
New region S8964 [N23W24] emerged with tiny spots.

September 12-13: No obviously Earth directed CMEs were observed.
September 14: A long duration M1.2 (estimated) event started at 06:39
to the northeast of AR 13423 and peaked near 07:45 UT. LASCO C2 imagery
displays the leading edge of a CME off the northwest limb at 07:24 UT. This
CME later expanded to become a full halo CME. Effects could reach Earth
sometime late on September 16 or on September 17 and cause unsettled to
major storm conditions.

A trans equatorial negative polarity coronal hole (CH1172) was Earth facing on September 11-13.

Long distance low and medium frequency (below 2 MHz) propagation along paths north of due west over upper middle and high latitudes is poor. Propagation on long distance northeast-southwest paths is poor to fair.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be quiet to minor storm on September 15-17, first due to effects from CH1172 and later from the September 14 CME.

1) Effects from a coronal hole
could reach Earth within the next 5 days. When the high speed
stream has arrived the color changes to green.
2) Effects from a CME are likely to be observed at Earth within 96 hours.
3) There is a possibility of either M or X class flares within the next 48 hours.

Looking back 6 months, the 365d smoothed values for solar flux and all sunspot numbers with the exception of NOAA's, are all above their solar cycle 24 peak. The first peak of solar cycle 25 is forecast to be between July 7 and 10, 2023 (solar flux on July 7, ISN and STAR 1K and 2K all have that peak on July 9, while NOAA peaks on July 10). This is unlikely to be the final peak of SC25, however, there is a small probability that it is the actual sunspot and solar flux maximum.
