
The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled on September 9. Solar wind speed at SOHO ranged between 324 and 400 km/sec. The high latitude magnetometer at Andenes recorded quiet to active levels.
Solar flux density measured at 20h UT on 2.8 GHz was 161.4 - increasing 11.0 over the previous solar rotation. (Centered 1 year average SF at 1 AU - 183 days ago: 153.90. In comparison SC24 peaked on June 28, 2014 at 145.50). The Potsdam WDC planetary A index was 7 (STAR Ap - based on the mean of three hour interval ap indices: 6.8). Three hour interval K indices: 31122200 (planetary), 21123311 (Boulder), 43033410 (Andenes).
The background x-ray flux is at the class C1 level (GOES 16).
At the time of counting spots (see image time), spots were observed in 15 active regions using 2K resolution (SN: 302) and in 12 active regions using 1K resolution (SN: 205) SDO/HMI images.
Region 13418 [N18W66] was
mostly quiet and stable.
Region 13421 [N15W62] decayed slowly and produced many C flares. C1
flares: C1.2 @ 00:23, C1.4 @ 01:01, C1.8 @ 02:27, C1.9 @ 06:13, C1.6 @
06:25, C1.5 @ 19:16, C1.6 @ 23:22 UT
Region 13422 [N11W45] was quiet and stable.
Region 13423 [N15W02] developed further becoming a compact region.
The region is not yet magnetically complex. Even so an M class flare is
possible. C1 flares: C1.9 @ 09:45, C1.6 @ 11:14, C1.5 @ 18:50, C1.4 @ 22:47
UT
Region 13424 [N18E23] decayed slowly and quietly.
Region 13425 [N23E29] developed in the leading
spot section while slow decay was observed elsewhere. An M class flare is possible.
C1 flares: C1.3 @ 17:28 UT
Region 13426 [S19W10] decayed slowly and quietly.
New region 13427 [S28E29] emerged on September
7 and was numbered by SWPC 2 days later.
Spotted regions not observed (or interpreted
differently) by SWPC/USAF:
S8939 [S23W48] decayed slowly and quietly.
S8940 [S22E66] developed slowly and quietly.
New region S8941 [N10E72] rotated into view with a few spots.
New region S8942 [N08E80] rotated into view with a mature spot.
New region S8943 [N14W34] emerged after noon with several spots.
New region S8944 [S07E75] rotated into view with small spots. C1
flares: C1.7 @ 08:07 UT
New region S8945 [N27E52] emerged with a tiny spot.
AR S8914 behind the southwest limb was the source of a C1.6 flare at 16:17 UT.

September 9: No obviously Earth directed CMEs were observed.
September 8: A fast full halo CME with a backsided origin in the
northern hemisphere was observed from 11:48 UT in LASCO C2 imagery.
September 7: AR 13425 was the origin of an M2.1 flare at 19:01 UT. A
fast CME was observed off the northeast limb. The presence of another CME
(most likely backsided) at the same time made it difficult to determine if
there was any Earth directed component associated with this event.

Northern hemisphere positive polarity coronal holes (CH1169 and CH1170) will rotate across the central meridian on September 8-10. A negative polarity coronal hole (CH1171) in the southern hemisphere will be Earth facing on September 9-10. A trans equatorial negative polarity coronal hole (CH1172) will likely become Earth facing on September 11-13.

Long distance low and medium frequency (below 2 MHz) propagation along paths north of due west over upper middle and high latitudes is fair. Propagation on long distance northeast-southwest paths is poor.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be mostly quiet on September 10. Effects from CH1169, CH1170, CH1171 and CH1172 could cause quiet to active conditions on September 11-15.

1) Effects from a coronal hole
could reach Earth within the next 5 days. When the high speed
stream has arrived the color changes to green.
2) Effects from a CME are likely to be observed at Earth within 96 hours.
3) There is a possibility of either M or X class flares within the next 48 hours.

When available the active region map has a coronal hole polarity overlay where red (pink) is negative and blue is positive.

Looking back 6 months, the 365d smoothed values for solar flux and all sunspot numbers with the exception of NOAA's, are all above their solar cycle 24 peak. The first peak of solar cycle 25 is forecast to be between July 7 and 10, 2023 (solar flux on July 7, ISN and STAR 1K and 2K all have that peak on July 9, while NOAA peaks on July 10). This is unlikely to be the final peak of SC25, however, there is a small probability that it is the actual sunspot and solar flux maximum.
