
The geomagnetic field was at quiet to unsettled levels. Solar wind speed at SOHO ranged between 376 and 452 km/sec, averaging 417 km/sec (+8 km/sec compared to the previous day). A solar wind shock was observed at ACE at 04:23 UT on June 5, the arrival of the first of the June 3 CMEs. The high latitude magnetometer at Andenes was at quiet to minor storm levels. The above 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels all day.
Solar flux density measured at 20h UT on 2.8 GHz was 147.9 - increasing 28.4 over the previous solar rotation.
The 365 day average solar flux at 1 AU was 140.14 (183 days ago). The 81 day average solar flux at 1 AU was 126.7 (41 days ago, this is 36.4% of the total SC25 solar flux range from the max 81 day average peak on September 4, 2024 at 227.3 and an average 81 day flux of 69 at solar minimum). SC25 365d peak: 195.9 on October 13, 2024.
The Potsdam WDC planetary A index was 5 (STAR Ap - based on the average of three hour interval ap indices: 5.1). Three hour interval K indices: 32002101 (planetary), 33112312 (Boulder), 45113211 (Andenes).
The background x-ray flux is at the class B9 level (GOES 19).
At the time of counting spots (see image time), spots were observed in 14 active regions using 2K resolution (SN: 296) and in 9 active regions using 1K resolution (SN: 170) SDO/HMI images.
AR 14455 [N14W34] was less active than during
the previous days and lost a few spots. There's still significant polarity
intermixing to the north and southwest of the main penumbra. M flares are
possible. C1 flares: C1.1 @ 12:01, C1.1 @ 12:35, C1.5 @ 12:58, C1.4 @ 19:45

AR 14456 [N14W15] decayed slowly and quietly.
AR 14457 [S09W71] developed slowly and produced a few C flares. C1
flares: C1.4 @ 15:44, C1.6 @ 19:53, C1.6 @ 21:45, C1.5 @ 23:42 UT
AR 14458 [S06W21] gained area and could produce a minor M class

AR 14459 [N13E25] decayed, lost spots and simplified. C1 flares: C1.6

AR 14461 [S21E46] was mostly quiet and stable.

Spotted regions not observed (or interpreted
differently) by SWPC/USAF:
AR S12114 [N19E14] decayed slowly and quietly.
New AR S12116 [N17W06] emerged with many tiny
spots and polarity intermixing.
New AR S12117 [N16E79] rotated into view at noon with a mature spot.
New AR S12118 [S09W56] emerged with a tiny spot.
New AR S12119 [N19E37] was observed with a tiny spot in an old plage
area.
New AR S12120 [S13E80] rotated into view with a tiny spot.
AR 14446 produced a C1.5 flare at 06:38 and a C1.4
flare at 10:06 UT while rotating over the southwest limb.
A C1.6 flare at 15:58 and a C1.8 flare at 16:34 UT had their origin just
behind the northwest limb.

June 2, 4: No obviously Earth directed CMEs were observed in
available coronagraph imagery.
June 3: CMEs were observed with each of the 3 major flares in AR
14455, all of them are expected to have some Earth directed components.
However, none of the CMEs were particularly impressive and there's
significant uncertainty as to when they will reach Earth and how strong the
disturbances will be.

A recurrent positive polarity trans equatorial coronal hole (CH1372) was Earth facing on May 31-June 1.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be at unsettled to major storm levels on June 5-6 due to effects related to the June 3 CMEs. Quiet conditions are likely on June 7.

When available the active region map has a coronal hole polarity overlay where red (pink) is negative and blue is positive.

Solar activity appears to have exited the solar max phase as of February
2026 with a strong decrease in the number of sunspots observed. The northern
polar field has weakened considerably over the last months, and although
there is a chance the the field could recover over the next 1-2 years, there
is an increasing chance that solar cycle 26 will be very weak. The southern
polar field is not impressive either, however, a southern polar coronal hole
has formed early in 2026 and appears to be growing.
All 365 day smoothed sunspot numbers reached a maximum on October 11-12, 2024.
This became the peak of SC25 (365 day smoothed peaks: STAR 1K: 236.1, STAR 2K: 364.3, NOAA SN: 156.0, ISN: 163.9),
while the 365d
smoothed solar flux peaked on October 13, 2024, just 1.7% below the SC23
peak, and 62.6% above the SC24 peak.
