
The geomagnetic field was at quiet to severe storm levels on June 3 under the influence of strong CME effects. Solar wind speed at SOHO ranged between 548 and 694 km/sec, averaging 617 km/sec (-80 km/sec compared to the previous day). The high latitude magnetometer at Andenes recorded unsettled to very severe storm levels. The above 10 MeV proton flux was at 0.7 pfu at the end of the day.
Solar flux density measured at 20h UT on 2.8 GHz was 134.8 - decreasing 19.4 over the previous solar rotation. The 365 day average solar flux at 1 AU was 189.52 (183 days ago). SC25 peak: 195.86 on October 13, 2024 (subtracting a baseline solar flux level of 65, this is +62.6% compared to the SC24 peak and -1.7% compared to the SC23 peak). The Potsdam WDC planetary A index was 56 (STAR Ap - based on the mean of three hour interval ap indices: 56.4). Three hour interval K indices: 67656522 (planetary), 56644*32 (Boulder), 68755533 (Andenes).
The background x-ray flux is at the class B7 level (GOES 19).
At the time of counting spots (see image time), spots were observed in 10 active regions using 2K resolution (SN: 201) and in 8 active regions using 1K resolution (SN: 126) SDO/HMI images.
AR 14099 [S13W50] decayed slowly and was mostly
quiet. C1 flares: C1.9 @ 21:44 UT
AR 14100 [N09W39] decayed slowly and was mostly quiet.
AR 14101 [N03W58] decayed slowly and quietly.
AR 14104 [N07W11] decayed slowly and quietly.
New AR 14105 [S14E75] rotated partly into view on June 2 and was
numbered the next day by SWPC. The region was somewhat unstable and could
produce further M class flaring. C1 flares: C1.3 @ 00:26, C1.5 @ 03:27, C1.1
@ 05:24, C1.1 @ 06:45, C1.3 @ 08:39, C1.5 @ 11:36, C1.4 @ 11:46 UT

S11113 [S11E07] reemerged with tiny spots.
S11115 [S11E20] reemerged with tiny spots.
S11116 [N11E47] was quiet and stable.
New region S11123 [N12E26] emerged with tiny spots.

June 1-2: No obviously Earth directed CMEs.
June 3: A filament eruption in the northern hemisphere began early in
the day with a positive polarity coronal hole forming after 17h UT. The
associated slow moving CME may have an Earth direct component and could
reach Earth on June 6-7.

A negative polarity southern hemisphere coronal hole (CH1299) will be Earth facing on June 2-4.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to unsettled levels on June 4. June 5-7 could see quiet to active levels due to effects from CH1299, maybe with some effects from the June 3 CME on June 6-7.

When available the active region map has a coronal hole polarity overlay where red (pink) is negative and blue is positive.

Sunspot activity has been on a slowly decreasing trend since September
2024 (using the average solar flux over 3 solar rotations as a proxy). The
decline has become more obvious during the first half of May 2025 with solar
flux on May 12 at its lowest level since April 4, 2024. The solar max phase
of solar cycle 25 was considerably shorter than that of the most recent
solar cycles.
All 365 days smoothed sunspot numbers peaked on October 11-12, 2024,
very likely making this the peak of SC25 (STAR 1K 365d peak: 236.1, STAR 2K
365d peak: 364.3, NOAA SN 365d peak: 156.0, ISN 365d peak: 163.6). The 365d
smoothed solar flux peaked on October 13, 2024, just 1.7% below the SC23
peak, and 62.6% above the SC24 peak.
