
The geomagnetic field was at quiet to minor storm levels on July 15 under the influence of effects associated with CH1306. Solar wind speed at SOHO ranged between 510 and 844 km/sec, averaging 661 km/sec (+141 km/sec compared to the previous day). The high latitude magnetometer at Andenes recorded quiet to major storm levels. The above 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels all day.
Solar flux density measured at 20h UT on 2.8 GHz was 139.6 - increasing 2.6 over the previous solar rotation. The 365 day average solar flux at 1 AU was 182.63 (183 days ago). The 81 day average solar flux at 1 AU was 136.7 (41 days ago, this is 42.8% of the total SC25 solar flux range from the max 81 day average peak on September 4, 2024 at 227.3 and an average 81 day flux of 69 at solar minimum). SC25 365d peak: 195.86 on October 13, 2024. The Potsdam WDC planetary A index was 21 (STAR Ap - based on the mean of three hour interval ap indices: 20.6). Three hour interval K indices: 44553212 (planetary), 45443322 (Boulder), 66344424 (Andenes).
The background x-ray flux is at the class B9 level (GOES 19).
At the time of counting spots (see image time), spots were observed in 14 active regions using 2K resolution (SN: 353) and in 12 active regions using 1K resolution (SN: 236) SDO/HMI images.
AR 14135 [S08W38] was quiet and stable.
AR 14136 [N19W09] developed slowly as new flux emerged. A patch of
positive polarity emerged near the southern tip of the largest negative
polarity penumbra and there is a chance a magnetic delta structure could
form. C1 flares: C1.2 @ 14:51 UT
AR 14138 [N27W70] decayed significantly in the trailing spot section
retaining only rudimentary penumbra on a few spots.
AR 14139 [N21W28] developed further and has M class flare potential.
AR 14140 [S16E21] decayed further losing all mature penumbra. Minor
polarity intermixing is still present.
AR 14142 [N01E36] developed further and became a trans equatorial
active region with spots on both sides of the equator. M class flaring is
possible due to significant polarity intermixing in the central spot
section. C1 flares: C1.6 @ 06:10, C1.2 @ 10:48, C1.4 @ 11:08, C1.2 @ 16:48
UT
AR 14143 [N23W00] developed further and was mostly
quiet.
New AR 14144 [S16E62] rotated into view on July 14 and was numbered
by SWPC the next day.
New AR 14145 [S25E20] emerged on July 14 and developed further on
July 15 when it was assigned its NOAA number.
Spotted regions not observed (or interpreted
differently) by SWPC/USAF:
S11236 [N11W31] was quiet and stable.
S11237 [S05W01] reemerged with tiny spots.
S11256 [N06E68] decayed slowly and quietly.
New AR S11259 [S08E13] emerged with tiny spots.
New AR S11260 [S13E72] rotated into view with a tiny spot.
A C1.3 flare was recorded at 02:14 UT from a location
behind the northwest limb.
A C1.3 flare was recorded at 04:14 as well as a C1.4 flare at 12:56 UT from
a location behind the southwest limb.
Location unknown due to missing imagery for these C1 flares: C1.4 @ 07:20,
C1.8 @ 17:59, C1.7 @ 19:21, C1.5 @ 19:43, C1.4 @ 20:40, C1.4 @ 21:46, C1.4 @

A huge recurrent trans equatorial positive polarity coronal hole (CH1306) was Earth facing on July 8-16.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be quiet to active levels on July 16 due to effects from CH1306. Quiet to unsettled levels are likely on July 17-19.

Sunspot activity has been on a decreasing trend since September
2024 (using the average solar flux over 3 solar rotations as a proxy).
Compared to the peak of SC25 solar flux has been at a low level in both May
and June 2025. Taking a closer look at the 81 day (3 solar rotations)
average solar flux proxy, its peak was in early September 2024 and had on
May 12 decreased to less than half of the solar cycle flux range.
Subtracting the 81 day average of approximately 69 at solar cycle minimum
from all measurements, the SC25 range is 0 - 158.3.
All 365 day smoothed sunspot numbers peaked on October 11-12, 2024,
very likely making this the peak of SC25 (365 day smoothed peaks: STAR 1K: 236.1, STAR 2K: 364.3, NOAA SN: 156.0, ISN: 163.9). The 365d
smoothed solar flux peaked on October 13, 2024, just 1.7% below the SC23
peak, and 62.6% above the SC24 peak.
