
The geomagnetic field was at quiet to unsettled levels on August 6. Solar wind speed at SOHO ranged between 368 and 437 km/sec, averaging 385 km/sec (-52 km/sec compared to the previous day). The high latitude magnetometer at Andenes recorded quiet to minor storm levels. The above 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels all day.
Solar flux density measured at 20h UT on 2.8 GHz was 158.2 - increasing 28.7 over the previous solar rotation. The 365 day average solar flux at 1 AU was 178.57 (183 days ago). The 81 day average solar flux at 1 AU was 139.5 (41 days ago, this is 44.6% of the total SC25 solar flux range from the max 81 day average peak on September 4, 2024 at 227.3 and an average 81 day flux of 69 at solar minimum). SC25 365d peak: 195.86 on October 13, 2024. The Potsdam WDC planetary A index was 5 (STAR Ap - based on the average of three hour interval ap indices: 5.0). Three hour interval K indices: 21111212 (planetary), 22111422 (Boulder), 22121325 (Andenes).
The background x-ray flux is at the class C1 level (GOES 19).
At the time of counting spots (see image time), spots were observed in 12 active regions using 2K resolution (SN: 264) and in 11 active regions using 1K resolution (SN: 193) SDO/HMI images.
AR 14161 [S13W56] decayed slowly and quietly.
AR 14165 [N12W21] decayed quietly.
AR 14167 [N12W83] rotated partly out of view and was mostly quiet.
AR 14168 [N05W23] developed further in a southern intermediate spot
section where new magnetic delta configurations formed. The magnetic deltas
around the main penumbra weakened. There is still a chance of a major flare.
AR 14169 [N22E46] decayed in the largest penumbral area, however, new
spots formed to the south with a tiny magnetic delta configuration forming.
AR 14170 [S17W53] matured and produced a few low level C flares.
New AR 14171 [N19E65] rotated into view on August 5 and received its
NOAA number the next day.
New AR 14172 [N08E53] emerged on August 5 and developed further on
August 6 when the spot group was numbered by SWPC. C1 flares: C1.9 @ 22:10
UT
New AR 14173 [S17W27] was first observed with spots on August 1. Slow
development was observed on August 5-6.

differently) by SWPC/USAF:
S11306 [N28E07] was quiet and stable.
S11307 [N18W38] was quiet and stable.
S11324 [S08W02] developed slowly and quietly.

August 4. 6: No obviously Earth directed CMEs.
August 5: A very diffuse halo CME was observed after the M4 flare in
AR 14168, with the most dense material observed off the west limbs. Given
the location of the flare and the relative slow CME speed, Earth could see a
minor shock on August 8.

An extensive southern hemisphere recurrent positive polarity coronal hole (CH1310) will rotate across the central meridian on August 5-11. A northern hemisphere positive polarity coronal hole (CH1311) will rotate across the central meridian on August 7-10.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet levels on August 7. August 8 could see the arrival of the August 5 CME with a possibility of major storm intervals. August 8-14 could have unsettled to minor storm disturbance levels due to effects from CH1310.

Sunspot activity has been on a decreasing trend since September
2024 (using the average solar flux over 3 solar rotations as a proxy).
Compared to the peak of SC25 solar flux has been at a low level in both May
and June 2025. Taking a closer look at the 81 day (3 solar rotations)
average solar flux proxy, its peak was in early September 2024 and had on
May 12 decreased to less than half of the solar cycle flux range.
Subtracting the 81 day average of approximately 69 at solar cycle minimum
from all measurements, the SC25 range is 0 - 158.3.
All 365 day smoothed sunspot numbers peaked on October 11-12, 2024,
very likely making this the peak of SC25 (365 day smoothed peaks: STAR 1K: 236.1, STAR 2K: 364.3, NOAA SN: 156.0, ISN: 163.9). The 365d
smoothed solar flux peaked on October 13, 2024, just 1.7% below the SC23
peak, and 62.6% above the SC24 peak.
