
The geomagnetic field was at quiet to minor storm levels on April 19 due to effects from CH1285 early in the day. Another disturbance began after 17h UT. At ACE after 23h UT the phi angle has been in a positive sector, and there is possibility that the disturbance is related to CH1286. Solar wind speed at SOHO ranged between 380 and 431 km/sec, averaging 401 km/sec (-47 km/sec compared to the previous day). The high latitude magnetometer at Andenes recorded unsettled to minor storm levels. The above 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels.
Solar flux density measured at 20h UT on 2.8 GHz was 157.4 - decreasing 10.7 over the previous solar rotation. (Centered 365d average SF at 1 AU - 183 days ago: 195.01. In comparison SC24 peaked on June 28, 2014 at 145.50 while SC23 peaked on February 23, 2002 at 198.15. SC25 smoothed 365d solar flux max: 195.86 on October 13, 2024 (subtracting a baseline solar flux level of 65, this is +62.6% compared to the SC24 peak and -1.7% compared to the SC23 peak). The Potsdam WDC planetary A index was 20 (STAR Ap - based on the mean of three hour interval ap indices: 20.0). Three hour interval K indices: 43323435 (planetary), 43523423 (Boulder), 55343454 (Andenes).
The background x-ray flux is at the class C1 level (GOES 18).
At the time of counting spots (see image time), spots were observed in 14 active regions using 2K resolution (SN: 288) and in 9 active regions using 1K resolution (SN: 166) SDO/HMI images.
AR 14060 [N08W54] decayed slowly and produced
several low level C flares. C1 flares: C1.5 @ 11:14 UT
AR 14062 [S02E11] decayed slowly and was mostly quiet. C1 flares:
C1.4 @ 03:00 UT
AR 14063 [N05W34] developed slowly and was mostly quiet. C1 flares:
C1.3 @ 11:47, C1.3 @ 15:31 UT
AR 14064 [N11E35] decayed slowly and lost the magnetic delta
configuration. C1 flares: C1.4 @ 23:34 UT
AR 14065 [S30E38] developed further and has minor M class flare
potential. C1 flares: C1.5 @ 17:45, C1.5 @ 18:27, C1.6 @ 20:34 UT
AR 14067 [S02E45] decayed slowly and quietly.

differently) by SWPC/USAF:
S10982 [S22W47] decayed slowly and quietly.
S10992 [N14W13] was quiet and stable.
S10995 [N04E04] was quiet and stable.
S10996 [N32W11] decayed slowly and quietly.

New region S10998 [S15W27] emerged with tiny
spots.
New region S10999 [N09E73] rotated into view with a tiny spot.

A positive polarity southern hemisphere coronal hole (CH1286) will rotate across the central meridian on April 17-23.
Long distance low and medium frequency (below 2 MHz) propagation along paths north of due west over upper middle and high latitudes is poor. Propagation on long distance northeast-southwest paths is poor to fair.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to to minor storm levels on April 20-25 due to effects from CH1286.

1) Effects from a coronal hole could
reach Earth within the next 5 days. When the high speed stream has arrived
the color changes to green.

When available the active region map has a coronal hole polarity overlay where red (pink) is negative and blue is positive.

Sunspot activity has been on a slowly decreasing trend since September 2024 (using the average solar flux over 3 solar rotations as a proxy). All 365 days smoothed sunspot numbers peaked on October 11-12, 2024, very likely making this the solar max. SDO1K 365d peak: 236.1, SDO2K 365d peak: 364.4, NOAA SN 365d peak: 156.0, ISN 365d peak: 163.5. The 365d smoothed solar flux peaked on October 13, 2024, only 1.7% below the SC23 peak, and 62.6% above the SC24 peak.
