The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled on February 9. Solar wind speed at SOHO ranged between 350 and 523 (estimated) km/s under the decreasing influence of a high speed stream from CH652.
Solar flux at 20h UTC on 2.8 GHz was 145.8 (decreasing 2.2 over the last solar rotation). The 90 day 10.7 flux at 1 AU was 149.3. The Potsdam WDC planetary A index was 7 (STAR Ap - based on the mean of three hour interval ap indices: 6.6). Three hour interval K indices: 31112222 (planetary), 21112322 (Boulder).
The background x-ray flux is at the class B7 level.
At the time of counting spots (see image time), spots were observed in 8 active regions using 2K resolution (SN: 171) and 7 active regions using 1K resolution (SN: 127) SDO images on the visible solar disk.
Region 12277 [N10W75] decayed slowly and quietly.
Region 12280 [S08W40] decayed in the trailing spot section. There is a
magnetic delta in a central penumbra. An M class flare is possible.
Region 12281 [N12W03] decayed slowly and quietly.
Region 12282 [N12E56] developed as new flux emerged inside the trailing
positive polarity area. The region became more unstable after this development
and produced an M2 flare late in the day. Further M class flares are possible.
Spotted regions not numbered (or interpreted
differently) by SWPC:
S4198 [S27W03] was quiet and stable.
S4207 [N07E35] developed early in the day, then decayed.
S4208 [S09E16] was quiet and stable.
New region S4209 [N12W10] was split off from AR
12281 when it became obvious that this was a new region.

February 7-9: No obviously Earth directed CMEs were observed in LASCO imagery. The CME generated by the M2 flare late on February 9 could be a partial halo CME (pending further analysis).

A recurrent trans equatorial coronal hole (CH653) will likely rotate into an Earth facing position on February 10-11, CH653 has not been associated with geomagnetic disturbances during previous rotations.
Long distance low and medium frequency (below 2 MHz) propagation along paths north of due west over upper middle latitudes is poor. Propagation on long distance northeast-southwest paths is poor to fair.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be quiet to unsettled on February 10-12. Weak geomagnetic effects associated with CH653 are possible on February 13-14.

1) Effects from a coronal hole could reach Earth within the
next 5 days. When the high speed stream has arrived the color changes to green.
2) Effects from a CME are likely to be observed at Earth within 96 hours.
3) There is a possibility of either M or X class flares within the next 48 hours.
Green: 0-30% probability, Yellow: 30-70% probability, Red: 70-100% probability.

When available the active region map has a coronal hole polarity overlay where red (pink) is negative and blue is positive.

Comments are my own, as is the STAR spot count (spots observed at or inside a few hours before midnight) and data for regions not numbered by SWPC or where SWPC has observed no spots.
