The geomagnetic field was very quiet on December 29. Solar wind speed ranged between 317 and 367 km/s (all day average 345 km/s - increasing 5 km/s over the previous day).
Solar flux measured at 20h UTC on 2.8 GHz was 78.4. The planetary A index was 2 (STAR Ap - based on the mean of three hour interval ap indices: 2.3). Three hour interval K indices: 00001111 (planetary), 00011110 (Boulder).
The background x-ray flux is at the class A5 level, slowly increasing due to the approach of old region 10930 at the east limb.
At midnight the visible solar disk was spotless. The solar flare activity level was very low. No C class events were recorded during the day.
December 27-29: No obvious partly or fully Earth directed CMEs were detected in LASCO imagery.

A recurrent coronal hole (CH254) in the southern hemisphere will likely rotate into an Earth facing position on December 30-31.
Processed SOHO/EIT 195 image at 00:00 UTC on December 30. The darkest areas on the solar disk are likely coronal holes.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be quiet on December 30 - January 1. A high speed wind from CH254 will likely cause unsettled to minor storm conditions on January 2-3.

1) Effects from a coronal hole could reach Earth
within the next 5 days. When the high speed stream has arrived the
color changes to green.
2) Effects from a CME are likely to be observed at Earth within 96 hours.
3) There is a possibility of either M or X class flares within the next 48 hours.
Green: 0-20% probability, Yellow: 20-60% probability, Red: 60-100% probability.
Long distance low and medium frequency (below 2 MHz) propagation along east-west paths over high and upper middle latitudes is fair. Propagation on long distance northeast-southwest paths is very poor.
Monitoring remarks from a location near N58E06: From North America several stations were heard with fair to good signals with the New York stations on 1050 and 1130 having the best signals at 04h UTC.
